Brett Amory, Waiting

Below is a collection of images that I recently received from artist Brett Amory, all featuring his most recent ‘enlarged’ waiting series. At the end of June Brett had is first solo show in LA and whilst there he was given the opportunity to paint a life size figure directly onto the gallery wall. Enjoying the scale changed and the manner in which it had affected his characters Brett Embarked on a completely new vein of Larger than life figures, painted on to rough cuts of butcher paper.

Being heavily influenced by street culture this recent development couldn’t be bettered tailored to Brett’s stream of thought. Following a private viewing of the paintings at Heist Gallery, Brett took to the streets placing his ‘waiting’ characters back into the very environments from which he had extracted them years previously. The work now sits in the very locations where it was born, reengaging with those who have inspired an ever-expanding body of work.

If once they were waiting now perhaps they have become engrained, that is at least for a moment until the elements reclaim the paintings leaving only a faint trace of what was formerly there.

Jon Moran, Kingsley Elliott Graphic Designer

With the launch of our new web site you might find your self asking who was the creative brain behind the Kingsley Elliott Branding and graphic design, well your answer would be Jon Moran. Having graduated from RISD with Jon in 2008 we both moved to the city as eager as the next ‘New York New Comer’ to find our footing and come to grips with the ‘Big Apple’ thankfully we both seem to come up smiling.

Jon also acts as a freelance graphic designer offering us the opportunity to acquire his expertise to design the Kingsley Elliott web site. Our main goal with the web site was to build something that would functions seamlessly and through intuition, whilst also being fresh and edgy.

Edu Hawkins Music Photography

Just a couple of months ago whilst enjoying a fantastic week off at New Orleans annual Jazz Feast, I had the pleasure of bumping into Edu Hawkins, an old friend and photographer. Edu though inevitably enjoying all that the festival had to offer was in fact there photographing for the Independent Newspaper, London.

The festival if you haven't had the opportunity to experience it is second to none, a cultural extravaganza. Boasting some of the worlds most beloved musicians and so much great food that you will undoubtedly leave a few pounds heavier!

When looking through Edu's photographs I was taken by his fantastic ability to capture not just a moment but the atmosphere present within an environment. In fact whilst Edu was stood a the feet of the King of Blues him self (BB King, image seen above), I watched their interaction, with slight jealousy, from the tips of my toes at the back of a very crowded blues tent.

Since returning Edu has been featured in BBC oxfords 'People and Places' where a collection of his images from the festival plus a selection of others, are being displayed. Images include such iconic musicians as Jarvis Cocker, Jack White and BB King. BBC Oxford - Ed Hawkins

KINGSLEY ELLIOTT launches new web site

I am incredibly proud to announce the launch of my new online gallery Kingsley Elliott. The web site is an online gallery for emerging artists, used to promote, support and raise awareness of the endlessly talented stream of emerging artists world wide (read the full Kingsley Elliott mission statement at www.kingsleyelliott.com/html/about.html.)

The new web site introduces new features intended to further the visual and intellectual connection between artists and patron on a virtual level. The ultimate goal is to foster interest generated though an online experience, and thus generate a desire to view the artwork in person, whether that be through a private viewing or an exhibition.

Recent developments include; a news section directly linked to Kingsley Elliott blog. The news section will include bulletins both directly and indirectly related to Kingsley Elliott and our artists. This gives an overarching insight into the goings on of the gallery and our artists. Artist’s videos have also been introduced. Videos are shot in the artist’s studio, allowing each artist to communicate their theory and working process in an informal manner. Currently there are two videos featured on the web site by artists Lynn Herring and Brian Fekete (they can be found at www.kingsleyelliott.com/html/videos.html)

As well as updates to the web sties functionality, there are new additions to the artist’s roster, soon to be announced. Stay tuned for more information.

I am incredibly excited about all new developments, additions and upcoming projects and will be sure to keep everyone posted as things progress and events occur.

I hope you enjoy the web site, and please do connect and interact with us via our twitter and Facebook accounts as well as the Kingsley Elliott blog.
